David + Kayla | Tinker House Events Wedding | Indianapolis, IN
This day was special to me not only because it was the wedding of two dear friends, but also because it was my first wedding as a photographer. I also couldn't have done it without the help of my husband, who doubles as my second shooter most of the time. ;)
I had some serious doubts about my ability to capture this wedding because 1) I really just picked up photography early last summer and 2) I didn’t think I’d be good enough to shoot a wedding this soon. When I’ve compared my work to more experienced photographers, I’ve always felt like I’m 10 steps behind them, that I’m not really cut out to be a photographer, and that I’m definitely not good enough to try to shoot weddings. But I’ve learned that if you truly love to do something that thousands of other people are doing (and doing better than you), it’s okay to do it anyway. You SHOULD do it anyway.
Creativity is beautiful because everyone is capable of it in some way, shape or form. I love that creative endeavors stretch the mind and the heart at the same time. There is no room for comparison because there should really only be room for continual growth and learning. I make mistakes all the time and am by no means one of the better photographers out there. But the possibility of eventually becoming a better photographer than I am at this moment is 1,000 percent worth every minute of reading blog posts, watching tutorials, shooting, editing and shooting some more.
To be able to capture moments like this for two dear friends to remember for the rest of their lives is the greatest privilege I've had while pursuing this passion. I'm so grateful. For David, for Kayla and for this experience.
